Sensations

Sensations is a 2D-platformer that focuses on the playable character's emotions. These emotions provide the player with different abilities, alter the game's mood, and present intriguing choices.

The playable character reacts to the game world as well as decisions made by the player with one of four emotions: Rage, Fear, Pride, or Greed. The prevalence of these emotions dictates the playable character's abilities. Each emotion subtly influences certain values (such as Rage allowing the character to deal more damage), but when one emotion is especially strong, the character unlocks a new temporary ability, enabling them to traverse the game world in a unique way.

These different abilities offer players the opportunity to choose between various playstyles. The emotions can also act as a positive feedback loop, motivating players by enhancing their proficiency in their preferred actions. The existence of diverse paths throughout the game, some emphasizing combat while others emphasizing various forms of platforming, makes multiple playthroughs all the more enticing.

In addition to its precise mechanics and abilities, Sensations also places a strong emphasis on crafting an appealing mood and atmosphere. To achieve this, the game dynamically adjusts the music based on the emotions the character is experiencing. Furthermore, the hand-drawn and animated visuals are carefully tinted with colors associated with the different emotions throughout the game. This color scheme seamlessly integrates into the distinct watercolor style, which draws inspiration from traditional Japanese art that harmonizes with the game's setting.
